The community in Tubberclair and the surrounding areas is mourning the passing of Joe Lennon, who served as groundsman at St. Clare’s N.S. for 30 years.
Joe, who passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving family in his 83rd year, was fondly remembered as “a true gentleman” who always had time for “a kind word and a friendly chat” with everyone he met.
Paying tribute, St. Clare’s N.S. described Joe as a valued colleague and dear friend.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former colleague and dear friend, Joe Lennon,” the school said in a tribute.
“He took immense pride in the appearance of the school grounds and was meticulous in ensuring that the landscape was maintained to the highest standard. His dedication and commitment greatly enhanced the environment for our pupils and staff.
“Time spent in his company was invariably uplifting and enjoyable, and he will be remembered with affection and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Joe will be remembered by his loving family including his wife Mary; his children Ruth, Susan, Joan, Maeve, Peter and Shannon and their respective partners; his “fine crop” of grandchildren Tom, Róisín, Aoibhín, Eimear, Sarah, Michael, Abby, Niamh, Jess, Billy, Gemma, Oisín and Rían; his brother John (Bro. Ronan) and his sister Anne Henehan; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many good friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary Anne and Thomas; his sisters Bridget, Mary and Theresa (Infancy); his brothers Jay, Frank, Anthony, Pat and Christopher (Infancy); his brother-in-law Matty Moran; his sister-in-law Anne Cullen; and his good friend Paul Kearney.
Joe’s funeral Mass took place on Friday, March 6, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tubberclair, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
