Athlone A Cappella raises money for Cancer Care West

The singers of Athlone A Cappella recently presented a cheque for €510 to Cancer Care West.

Athlone A Cappella raised the money while singing carols in Golden Island before Christmas 2025. Cancer Care West provides valuable support to those affected by cancer in Athlone and in the wider catchment area of the West of Ireland. Many members of Athlone A Cappella and their families have been affected by cancer, and it is a cause close to the heart of those in the chorus.

Members of Athlone A Cappella Committee met Orla Cunniffe of the Cancer Care West Management and Fundraising Team in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, where the cheque for €510 was presented.

The money raised will go towards providing community based practical and emotional support for cancer patients and their families.

The funds also help provide information, therapies and direct care of patients.

Recently Athlone A Cappella was delighted to welcome several new members to its chorus and is now busy preparing for its annual convention in October.

This is organised by IABS (Irish Association of Barber shop singers) and will take place in Killarney.

AAC has several forthcoming events and will next perform in The Sheraton Athlone Hotel on March 7, in a celebration of International Women’s Day 2026.

All funds raised will go towards Esker House Domestic Abuse Support Service.

It will be an interesting and entertaining night with guest speakers such as Maria Walsh and a DJ and a goodie bag for ticket holders.

Athlone A Cappella is also looking forward to performing with Athlone Choral Society in the annual summer concert on May 17 in St Mary’s Church.
