Lake County take on Louth as Leinster U20 campaign begins
Westmeath U20 football boss Kenny McKinley has named his starting team for this evening’s opening round of the Leinster Under 20 Championship. The Lake County meet Louth in Lakepoint Park at 7.45pm this evening.
Having witnessed Coláiste Mhuire’s success in the Hogan Cup All-Ireland PPS Senior ‘A’ football final, Westmeath fans will be anticipating a good run in this year’s Leinster U20 championship. The Westmeath team has a Hogan Cup flair to it: Críostóir Ormsby is joined at midfield by Mullingar Shamrocks clubmate, Donnacha Maguire. Talented forwards Will Scahill (Coláiste Mhuire) and James McHugh (Marist College) spearhead the attack, with All-Ireland winning captain Michael Weir selected at centre-forward.
Westmeath captured the All-Ireland ‘B’ title last year, but supporters are keen to see progress at the top level and this evening is where it all begins.
