New café to open in The Village at Burgess

The Village at Burgess will welcome a new business when The Hungry Crowd opens this Friday, April 10.

Established in 2024 by husband and wife Joe Couto and Claudia Monteiro, the Hungry Crowd started as a home-based business baking sweet treats for family occasions and to supply to coffee shops.

The couple have now decided the "time is right" to have a presence in the heart of Athlone and they are looking forward to welcoming customers to their business in The Village at Burgess from Friday.

"I started baking from home providing cakes and desserts for family occasions and then we started to supply our baked treats to coffee shops in Athlone," Claudia said.

Claudia believes the time has come to open their business in Athlone and offer their range of baked goods to a wider public.

"We have now decided to open our business to showcase all of our home baked goods. We will be serving coffee with baked sweet treats, desserts and home made cakes, such as carrot cake and lemon drizzle, all firm favourites with customers. We will also have light bites for lunch," Claudia said.

In a social media post, The Village at Burgess welcomed the imminent opening of The Hungry Crowd.

"We’re really excited to announce that Claudia and Joe from The Hungry Crowd are opening soon in The Village at Burgess. Get to know these faces, you’re going to love their coffee and cakes".
