Athlone Town appoint local businessman to club board

Athlone Town have appointed local businessman Declan Holohan as a board director.

In a club update posted on social media today (Tuesday), Athlone Town CEO Steven Gray welcomed the "exciting addition" of Holohan to the club's board.

"Declan has great knowledge of the football club, a great passion for what is best for us, is well respected in the business community, is hard working, has pure intentions and integrity and has a network of people that will hopefully help drive our club forward in the coming months and years.

"Moreover, Declan has demonstrated his skill set of 'getting things done' as he has overseen our stadium upgrades. These upgrades were essential for the players/staff to see our intent to provide them with a high-performance environment," Gray said.

Gray commended the role which the Complete Solutions Financial Services owner has played with a number of infrastructural developments at the club.

"We now have a coach’s office where all football staff can meet and collaborate, an analysis room/presentation room for team meetings, a home dressing room that can compete with any in the country and a player’s lounge, all thanks to Declan.

"These upgrades were needed. I count us very fortunate to have him on board and I know he will be a tremendous asset to the club, in many ways, going forward," Gray stated.

Holohan has had a long-term relationship with the club, serving numerous underage coaching roles.

The Willow Park native was also part of the interim management team, alongside Danny Byrne and Robbie Rock, who took charge of the men's first team for a number of games following the departure of Dário Castelo from the role in April last year.

Meanwhile, club chairman Nick Giannotti also confirmed that April will see further improvements at the ground, including the installation of a new astro pitch and continued upgrades to the club room.
