Athlone Town issues update on manager search
Athlone Town have identified 'a shortlist of potential candidates' to replace former women's team manager John Sullivan.
In a club update posted on social media today (Tuesday), Athlone Town CEO Stephen Gray confirmed that the club 'have a strategy' in place to fill the vacancy left by Sullivan's departure following the team's first Premier Division game of the season.
"Once we were informed of John's exit, the club's Technical Director Brian Shelley and I went into problem solving mode.
"This consisted of clear communication to the players regarding a short-term plan, discussions with our chairman and communication to the board re the steps in the new head coach recruitment process.
"We are currently in the process of recruiting the next head coach. We have a strategy and are working through it.
"It will take time to source the correct person. We have identified a shortlist of potential candidates and are working through it. We will continue to focus on this area until we fill this vitally important position," the CEO stated.
The reigning Premier Division and FAI Cup champions started their All Island Cup campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 home win over Cork City, the goals coming from Melissa O'Kane and Madison Gibson.
