Athlone Art Gallery hosts new exhibition by artist Thérèse Murphy
An exhibition of new work by Galway-based visual artist Thérèse Murphy opened on Friday, May 1 at The Village @ Burgess.
Presented by Athlone Art Gallery, the exhibition showcased Murphy’s distinctive multidisciplinary practice, which spans painting, drawing, installation and socially engaged art.
Her latest collection features works inspired by the natural environment, with vibrant palettes and expressive compositions that respond to Ireland’s changing landscapes and waterways.
Murphy is widely recognised for her environmental arts practice and was awarded the Artists in Communities Research and Development Award in 2022 for a project examining water quality in rural Ireland.
The work explored both private and collective responses to issues affecting freshwater and marine habitats across the country.
The exhibition includes a mix of large-scale and smaller canvases, with several statement pieces suited to public and commercial interiors such as foyers, lobbies and community spaces.
