Glasson native to appear on Virgin Media's 'Brain Doctors' documentary tonight

Glasson native Dr Catherine Moran is set to appear on a brand new Virgin Media documentary series.

The new programme, titled Brain Doctors: Inside Neurosurgery, is set to air tonight (Wednesday) at 9pm on Virgin Media One.

It will take an inside look at Beaumont’s Neurosurgery Department, as surgeons confront a tourist with glass in his brain, a mum with a complex tumour, and a young girl fighting life-threatening seizures.

Dr Moran became Ireland's first female consultant neurosurgeon back in 2020.

She took up the role after a 20-year journey in medicine, joining a twelve-strong team of neurosurgeons in the National Neurosurgical Centre.

"I'm not sick of [the] Ireland's first female neurosurgeon title, I don't think I ever will be," Dr Moran said in a clip from the show. "I'm very proud. It took a lot of work to get here. It took a lot of sacrifice to get here.

"Funnily, it's more relevant now than it was when I started training. People are more aware of the importance, and I guess I'm more aware of the importance of having female role models and female leaders."
