Former players' benevolent fund bucket collection at Athlone Town Stadium

A fundraising bucket collection for the Irish ex Professional Footballers Benevolent Association (IPFBA) will take place at the Athlone Town v Longford Town League of Ireland First Division fixture on Monday, April 21.

Former Athlone Town player Gordon Brett is a current IPFBA committee member and has called on fans attending the game to give their support to the cause.

The recently established group is looking to provide care and consideration for ex-players who may be dealing with medical and financial challenges, the intention being to have a group of regional officers in every area of the country where League of Ireland clubs play.

The IPFBA will host a major fundraising event, 'Three Wise Men' in Vicar Street on Monday, April 28.

Featuring football tales from former Republic of Ireland international trio, John Giles, Liam Brady and Niall Quinn, all proceeds from the event will go towards the benevolent funds for ex-Legue of Ireland players.
