One day, or day one?
Crossfit Croí are calling all Over 50s to take the first step to becoming a Healthier, Stronger, Fitter You
Remember back to December when we were all making New Year Resolutions? While I personally do not believe in Resolutions, or the “I Should, or I Need to” mentality. Many of those resolutions may have been good intentions but have now all perished with the left-over turkey and selection boxes come January.
Instead of resolutions and feeling the pressure of “having to” or “needing to” either start an exercise plan, or eating healthy, or moving more, or losing weight; why don’t we try to re-frame those into “I Get To”.
So, we, at Crossfit Croí, are calling all Over 50s to grasp the “I Get To” mentality and take the first step to becoming a Healthier, Stronger, Fitter You.
We can no longer hide behind the veil of lack of knowledge about the benefits of physical activity and strength training, we are being bombarded with it every day on social media. But the difficulty lies in knowing what is right for you, or where to start. The hardest step is always the first one, but it’s the most important one and it’s the one you must do for yourself. We know that 99% of success in fitness is simply showing up! We also know that the two greatest assets in life are: 1. Health 2. Time
If we invest in our health, we will buy back more time.
At CrossFit Croí, we have classes to suit all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced, with numerous class types to choose from. We assess each person as an individual and adapt exercises to suit, some may need to progress the movement, others may need to regress. We meet you where you are. We are concerned firstly with correct form and technique and only once that is perfected will we add resistance and intensity.
Our Over 50’s and our Men’s Only classes are proving very popular. Both are a strength and conditioning class working on a full body programme.
John F. Kennedy had a great quote: “It is not enough for a great nation merely to have added new years to life - our objective must also be to add new life to those years.”
We know that one quarter of our population is classed as inactive. But if we increase physical activity by just 20 minutes per day, we can reduce All Cause Mortality by 30%.
We know the minimum recommended figures are two strength training sessions per week plus 2.5 hours to 5 hours of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity. This might seem like a huge time investment, but consider how much time you spend on a daily basis scrolling on social media or watching TV? We know some of the benefits of increased activity and strength training are:
Reduction of:
• Hip Fractures by up to 68%
• Depression by up to 30%
• Breast Cancer by 20%
• Colon Cancer by 30%
• Cardiovascular Disease by up to 35%
• Type 2 Diabetes by up to 40%
• Dementia by up to 30%
We also know that you can build and strengthen muscle even in your 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s. There are numerous studies showing these increases across various nationalities. Muscle doesn’t know age, only effort.
All you need to do is take the first step and we will help you get started or progress even further with your training.
