Local groups to highlight domestic abuse with 'Go Purple Day' event

Westmeath-based group Women's Community Projects and Women's Collective Ireland are hosting an event with Longford Westmeath Domestic Abuse Local Area Network to raise awareness about domestic abuse.

In support of Go Purple Day, the groups will host a Go Purple Day event on Wednesday, May 14 from 11am-1pm, with refreshments being served between 1pm and 2pm.

The event will take place at the Women's Community Project Mullingar, Parish Community Centre, Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar, N91 AWH7.

Go Purple Day is a joint initiative between An Garda Siochána and Domestic Abuse Services Nationwide to raise awareness about Domestic Abuse.

The initiative was created by Community Garda Stacey Looby, Athlone Garda Station to create national awareness of Domestic Violence and to consolidate community partnerships between Domestic Violence Services and An Garda Síochána.

This event will bring together key community organisations working in the area of Domestic Abuse, each with further information available on the day. The event is open to all and an opportunity to find out more about domestic abuse and the range of services and supports available locally.

Over the years more awareness has been established regarding domestic violence and coercive control and services established. However, given the current statistics it is more important than ever that we come together to eliminate this issue from society.
