Tributes paid on passing of former Marist school principal
Tributes have been paid following the passing of Marist Brother, Br Sebastian.
Brother Sebastian was a former principal in the Marist Brother's primary school in Athlone and also served the role of Marist College Board of Management chairperson until 2022.
Recognising his years of dedicated service to the Board of Management, Marist College said it was with "great sadness" that the school learned of Brother Sebastian's passing.
"Br Sebastian gave many years of service to the Board where he provided guidance, advice, vision and any amount of humour. May his gentle soul rest in peace".
Athlone GAA acknowledged Br Sebastian's "huge contribution" to the club where he held many roles, most notably that of chairperson.
Members of the club provided a guard of honour prior to his burial in the Marist plot at Cornamagh Cemetery following his funeral mass in St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount, Dublin 4 on Wednesday.
Br Sebastian is deeply regretted by his niece Fiona, nephew Patrick, grandniece Darcy, grandnephew Dean, great grandnephews and great grandnieces, as well as his Marist Brothers confreres in Ireland and a wide circle of friends.
