One Westmeath player named on Tailteann Cup 'team of the week'
Despite Westmeath's exit from the Tailteann Cup on Sunday, one Lake County footballer has been named on the GAA.IE Tailteann Cup 'team of the week'.
Westmeath made their exit from this year's second tier senior football championship when losing by a post-hooter point to Wicklow in Aughrim, but wing back Sam McCartan has been rewarded for his individual display in Echelon Park.
The St Loman's clubman was once again in fine form over the game's duration contributing 1-2 to the Westmeath scoring total as Dermot McCabe's charges agonisingly fell short of a place in the competition's semi-final.
The result brings an end to Westmeath's league and championship seasons. While competitive in the vast majority of games played this year, Westmeath secured just three victories with victories over London, Laois and Antrim all in the Tailteann Cup.
