Indian national to unveil debut exhibition in Athlone Atrium
Local artist and software professional Hemant Sauparna will unveil his debut solo exhibition, 'Brushstrokes of Rediscovery' at the Athlone Atrium in the Civic Centre on Monday, June 23.
An exhibition which will run until July 18, this heartfelt collection features expressive acrylic paintings that mark Hemant’s return to art after years away, capturing a personal journey of creativity, colour, and reconnection.
Originally from India and now living in Athlone, Hemant works in the IT sector by day, but behind the scenes, a passion for painting has quietly grown. During the stillness of the pandemic, he found himself drawing and painting with his children, and in the process, rediscovered a long-lost love for visual art. What began as family time soon evolved into a deeper exploration of self-expression.
“I’ve always enjoyed creativity, even as a child, but it was only in recent years that I reconnected with that part of myself. Painting became a way to reflect, to express, and to stay joyful," Hemant said'
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Hemant’s style is defined by bold, energetic brushstrokes and a vibrant colour palette. While he occasionally experiments with pencil, charcoal, and watercolour, it is in acrylics that he finds the freedom to bring emotion and atmosphere to life. His work is intuitive and unfiltered, rooted in moments of inspiration and everyday beauty.
'Brushstrokes of Rediscovery' is not just a visual showcase, it is a story of revival and resilience. Hemant invites the Athlone community and beyond to experience his work and share in a space where creativity is celebrated, no matter where or when it begins.
Admission to the exhibition, which runs from June 23 to July 18, is free.
