Tipperary GAA CEO has strong Castledaly GAA links
As Tipperary prepare to contest the All-Ireland senior hurling final against Cork at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon, the occasion will mark a milestone moment for former Castledaly footballer and coach, Murtagh Brennan.
Brennan was appointed as Tipperary GAA chief executive officer in January 2023, and he was previously based in Athlone as a high ranking officer in the Defence Forces.
He was a member of the Castledaly senior playing squad who won their sole senior football championship title in 2008. A native of Tipperary, Brennan later training the South Westmeath club in 2012. He was a popular figure in Castledaly during his time with the club.
Brennan has also served as a hurling selector with Loughmore-Castleiney, the home club of the McGrath brothers, Noel, John and Brian.
In his role as a Defence Forces Officer, Brennan served with the 6th Infantry Battalion from his base in Custume Barracks, Athlone for a seven-year period, from 2007-2014.
In his capacity as Tipperary GAA CEO, Brennan is the figurehead of the Premier County's administration, his tenure to date witnessing the progress of the senior hurling team into contenders for the Liam MacCarthy Cup on Sunday evening.
