Section of Coosan Road in Athlone to close for two months
A section of the Coosan Road in Athlone is to close for two months, from Monday week, August 18, in order to facilitate pipelaying works being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The closure is due to remain in effect until October 17, and will result in a diversion being put in place through the Clonbrusk and Hillquarter areas.
In a statement on the project today (Friday), Uisce Éireann said: "Works are progressing well along Cartrontroy Road. To facilitate the next phase of pipelaying works, a section of Coosan Road will be closed from Monday, August 18, to Friday, October 17.
"Diversion routes will be in place to facilitate the temporary road closure, approved by Westmeath County Council, and these will be clearly signposted. Pedestrian access and local access will be maintained throughout the works."
Padraig Hanly, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the pipelaying works would benefit local residents.
"These upgrades will ensure that the water network is fit for purpose to support sustainable growth and development, while also improving the resilience of the drinking water network, enabling communities to thrive.
"We’d like to thank the people of Athlone in advance for their patience and support as we carry out these critical works," Mr Healy added.
The project is being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, a national programme of targeted investment to increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure.
Uisce Éireann added that it was committed to keeping the local community updated as the details of this project are finalised.
