Glasson's Moriarty claims Pro-Am double in Limerick
Glasson Lakehouse professional, Colm Moriarty savoured Munster golfing success on the double when winning the Limerick and Newcastle West Pro-Am competitions at the weekend.
A seven under performance on the fairways and greens of Limerick GC saw the Athlone native claim first prize on Friday afternoon
Moriarty repeated his winning feat in Newcastle West GC on Saturday when his five under par score saw him win the the 2025 Dussmann - STS Pro-Am silverware by one stroke.
Following his win, Moriarty expressed admiration for the venue.
“This is one of my favourite courses. I first played it almost ten years ago and it has always been a fantastic test of golf. The presentation today was superb," the former Walker Cup player said.
Club Captains Owen Hayes and Mary Liston welcomed participants, thanking sponsors Dussmann-STS, the PGA, and all staff and volunteers whose efforts ensured the event’s success.
Special credit went to Alister Lynch and his committee for their organisation, while the PGA’s John Cassidy praised the club’s hospitality and superb course presentation.
Newcastle West GC is steeped in history. Situated on the former estate of William Smith O’Brien, the 19th-century nationalist and co-founder of the United Ireland Movement, the grounds are closely linked with Ireland’s heritage.
The surrounding parish is also home to the discovery of the iconic Ardagh Chalice, one of the great treasures of early Christian art. Its image proudly features on the club logo, symbolising both history and pride.
The Pro-Am combined elite competition with community spirit, reaffirming Newcastle West Golf Club’s reputation as one of Ireland’s premier golfing venues.
