Moate couple raise over €19k for Motor Neurone Disease charity with Oasis ticket draw
Moate couple Maura and John Gillivan have raised a total of €19,205 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) with a recent draw, which saw them raffling off two sets of highy sought-after Oasis tickets.
The local couple carried out the fundraiser in memory of John's brother, Andy 'The Doll' Gillivan, who passed away from MND in March 2024.
The Oasis premium-level tickets were for the sold-out Croke Park stop on the band's Supersonic Tour, which took place on August 16 and 17.
The two lucky winners of the tickets were Eileen Cunningham and Pamela O'Connor.
The Gillivan family's support for the IMNDA started back in 2024 when Moate man, James 'Jimi' Gillivan, nephew to Maura and John, set out on an incredible fundraiser.
Jimi completed four marathons in four days in October of last year as part of the Run4MND fundraiser in memory of his late father Andy.
The run was completed in four parts, including a marathon from Athlone to Mullingar, Mullingar to Enfield, Enfield to Dublin, and culminating in the Dublin Marathon.
A spokesperson for IMNDA said: “James is a true inspiration, and we know your dad was right behind you for all those 100 plus miles. He raised a phenomenal €47,701 from this mega marathon event."
