Roscommon branch of Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign to host Family Day
The Roscommon branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) will hold Family Day event this Sunday, August 31.
The event will be a lively celebration of culture, community, and solidarity with the people of Palestine, and will run from 12pm to 4pm at Strokestown Park. Entry is free, and all are welcome to attend.
Since its formation earlier this summer, the Roscommon IPSC branch has successfully raised over €3,000 to support vital humanitarian aid for Palestinians in need. The group has also engaged in various campaigns to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles Palestinians face and their right to justice and peace.
The Family Day promises a fun-filled afternoon for all ages, featuring face painting, games, live music, and entertainment. Attendees will also enjoy Palestinian cooking demonstrations, storytelling sessions, and learn more about Palestinian culture and the significance of the event’s historic location.
Highlights of the event include:
- Live music performances, including Dee Dee D’Entertainer
- African drumming workshops
- Palestinian cooking demonstrations with tea, coffee, and ice cream available for purchase
- Family-friendly games and activities
- A chance to reflect on the historical connection of Strokestown Park to Irish and Palestinian struggles
Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic or buy a Pete’s Deli pizza to enjoy during the event.
Strokestown Park was chosen as the venue as it is home to the National Famine Museum, and it honours the historical struggle against famine and oppression. Just as Ireland endured a man-made famine in the 19th century, Palestinians face a similar humanitarian crisis today, and this event seeks to highlight the parallels and the importance of global solidarity.
