Roscommon County Council opt not to endorse Presidential election candidate

Roscommon County Council has opted not to nominate a candidate to contest the Presidential election.

A total of 14 independent candidates addressed the elected members in their quest for Council support to have their name on the Presidential election ballot paper on Friday, October 24.

Charlotte Keenan, Lucy-Anne O'Leary, Gearoid Duffy, Keith McGrory, Nick Delehanty, Walter Ryan-Purcell, Charlie Keddy, William P Allen, Gerben Uunk, Dolores Cahill, Cora Stack, Thomas Kelly, Aodhan Hargadáin and Rowena Mulcahy were the candidates who stated their Presidential election cause before Áras an Chontae.

The candidates were each allotted five minutes to pitch their cause to the sitting Councillors whom, in return, were allocated five minutes to pose questions to the nominee hopefuls.

MMA fighter Conor McGregor was scheduled to address the sitting Councillors but withdrew his name from the Presidential election race on Monday morning.

A candidate must be nominated by at least four local authorities or 20 members of the Oireachtas to get their name on the ballot paper in October.
