Sheehan's Swansea City savour stunning Carabao Cup comeback win
Athlone native Alan Sheehan savoured the biggest win of his English football managerial career when a stirring Swansea comeback saw his charges overcome Premier League Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Swansea reduced the deficit after 68 minutes with a headed finish from Australian international Cameron Burgess but seemed destined to exit the competition as the game entered additional time.
However, the Welsh club showed their spirit and levelled the cup tie on 93 minutes through Zan Vipotnik, before Burgess won the game four minutes later with a thunderous strike much to the delight of the Swansea faithful and their head coach Sheehan.
Speaking to the Swansea City media after he saw his team progress to the last 16 of the competition, Sheehan said he was proud of his team's performance.
“Most of the time you get out what you put in, and we deserved what we got from the game tonight.
"Tonight the players were superb and they went all the way to the final whistle.
“We went after them continuously and I am so proud of them for doing that against a Premier League team with that level of quality.
“All credit to the players for that, they got what they deserved.”
It has been a positive start to the season for Sheehan and Swansea City who currently sit seventh in the Championship table, one point off the play-off positions.
The Welsh club has won two, drawn two and lost just one of their opening five league fixtures and play Birmingham City in a Sky Sports televised fixture at 12.30pm on Saturday.
