Significant Athlone-area power outages due to Storm Amy

It may be only a yellow-level storm in Westmeath, but Storm Amy has already been causing blackouts in many parts of Athlone this afternoon (Friday).

The strong winds have impacted power supplies on the west side of Athlone, with areas such as Baylough and Deerpark Road affected.

According to the ESB Networks 'power check' website at 4pm, some 2,300 customers in the Baylough area were without electricity.

The site also lists a further 67 properties without power on the west side of town in the general Parnell Square area, while on the other side of the Shannon the ESB is reporting outages affecting 132 properties in the Garrycastle area, and nearly 300 properties in Coosan.

Outside Athlone, we've received reports of power outages in parts of Rosemount.

An orange-level wind warning is currently in place for Roscommon and other counties in Connacht up until 10pm, while the yellow-level warning for Westmeath and other counties in the Midlands is to remain in effect until midnight.
