Croí to mark world stroke day with health checks in Athlone

To mark World Stroke Day, Croí, the Heart & Stroke Charity, is bringing its state-of-the-art Mobile Health Hub to Golden Island Shopping Centre on Wednesday, October 29.

With the support of the Medtronic Mission Makers Project, members of the public are invited to step inside the Croí Mobile Health Hub from 10am to 4pm, to avail of free blood pressure and pulse checks, stethoscope checks, and CPR demonstrations.

Croí’s multi-disciplinary health team will be on hand throughout the day to provide expert advice on heart health and stroke prevention, and to answer questions on cardiovascular well-being.

Booking is essential, and bookings can be made by visiting https://croi.ie/event/worldstrokedayevent/

The Croí Mobile Health Hub is the first of its kind in Ireland dedicated to stroke prevention and heart health, a custom-built, 13.6-metre-long, multi-purpose mobile unit and the largest mobile stroke and heart disease detection facility in the country. It features six private assessment cubicles, two consultation rooms, and the capacity to transform into an open-plan educational and training facility. Its mission is simple but vital, to bring heart disease and stroke prevention directly into communities through early detection, risk assessment, and education.

This year, World Stroke Day 2025 builds on the 'Every Minute Counts' campaign, urging people worldwide to recognise the signs of stroke and the urgent need to #ActFAST. It also calls for stronger Government action on the policy recommendations outlined in #StrokeActionNow.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mark O’Donnell, Chief Executive, Croí said:

“World Stroke Day is an important reminder that stroke can happen to anyone, at any age, but the risk can be greatly reduced through early detection and awareness of key risk factors like high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation. Thanks to the support of the Medtronic Mission Maker Project, we’re able to bring our Mobile Health Hub to Athlone and provide free, potentially life-saving health checks and education to the local community.”
