Moate-based filmmaker to release 'Midlands Mayhem' comedy series

Moate-based filmmaker Adam Mura is set to release 'Midlands Mayhem' this Thursday, an independently produced comedy mini-series inspired by fan favourites Hardy Bucks, and Love/Hate.
Adam went to school in Wilson’s Hospital School in Mullingar, and has been living in Moate for over 10 years. The 28-year-old co-produced the series with Shane O’Baoill, after the pair met in film school.
"In our early 20's, my friends and I would make silly sketches just for us, and we decided that we wanted to try something more serious and approach a series that we could show the world," said Mr Mura.
"Working on the show has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. It’s been the first thing I think about when I wake up, and I couldn’t be happier that I’m finally getting to release it after all the team's hard work."
The five-part series follows Jared Ennis, a disillusioned young man working in a scrapyard in rural Ireland. Once part of a wild crew called The Sesh Council, he lived a life of partying, drugs, and petty crime. When former friend Tristan ‘Canner’ Corcoran reaches out to tell him that Fearghal, another member of their group, has been murdered, Ennis is pulled back into the Council’s world. Together with Jessica ‘Seshica’ Hegarty, the Council’s leader, they set out to investigate the murder.
The prime suspect, Mad Jack Wensleydale, claims responsibility for Fearghal's death, vowing to rid the area of the crime and violence that the Council represents. But it quickly becomes clear he’s not working alone.
The show is primarily shot in the town of Killucan, and the most recognisable recurring location is Lough Derravaragh, north of Mullingar.
"I was so impressed with the level of talent around the Midlands area, not only with those that are directly involved with the crew but the kindness and support of local communities with offering help and locations for the shoots," he said.
"I’m hoping that it’ll inspire more people to go out and make their own films, and that people will set more films and series within the Midlands because it’s criminally underrepresented in film."
