Garda injured while trying to arrest man in Athlone
A Garda sustained an injury while trying to arrest a man on the west side of Athlone last week.
It's understood that the officer suffered a shoulder injury while pursuing a suspect who "cycled a bicycle into the Garda" in the O'Connell Street area at approximately 11.15am on Thursday.
A man in his 30s was arrested and subsequently appeared in court in connection with a number of charges on Friday.
The man was remanded in custody, by consent, following his court appearance.
"As this matter is now before the courts, An Garda Síochána is not in a position to comment further at this time," said a Garda spokesperson.
Separately, a man was charged in connection with a break-in at Carey's pub, on Mardyke Street in Athlone, in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.
It's understood that after gaining entry to the closed pub, a person was disturbed while on the premises and fled the scene.
A man appeared in court on Friday having been charged in connection with the incident.
Athlone Gardai also said they were investigating a theft at a hair salon in the Pearse Street area last Thursday afternoon.
The incident involved an alleged theft of a handbag by a person who entered through a rear door of the salon.
