Moate CS students launch school bank

Moate Community School's Student Bank Team has officially opened the School Bank for students over the age of 14.

The bank is proving a huge success with over 60 students signing up on its opening day. All that was required to join was a picture of the student's passport and their phone number. The form was short and sweet with no unnecessary paperwork involved. Creating their accounts was the first step to financial independence for these students, with each student receiving their own debit card in the post shortly after signing up. These cards can be used for years to come with no fees for secondary school students or students in third level education.

To help promote financial literacy, the School Bank came up with an idea to get the teachers involved by holding a Financial Literacy Quiz. Teachers were paired against each other and had to answer both a financial question and general knowledge question, with the teacher who failed to answer correctly getting pied by either a student or the opposing teacher. All students who opened accounts on the day were entered into a raffle to 'Pie a Teacher'.
