Athlone winner of Lidl 'trolley dash' bags €480 worth of groceries
The local winner of Lidl's annual 'trolley dash' fundraiser recently gathered €480 worth of festive goodies during a two-minute supermarket sweep-style dash around its Athlone store.
Darin Classsen was the Athlone winner of the fundraising initiative which saw shoppers across Westmeath raise more than €4,200 for Lidl's charity partner, Family Carers Ireland, contributing to a total of more than €270,000 raised nationally.
Lidl shoppers were offered a chance to purchase a ticket to enter a draw for the annual 'trolley dash', with one winner selected in each of the retail chain's 190 stores nationwide, three of which are in Westmeath.
All of the proceeds raised from the ticket sales go towards supporting family carers and young carers across the country through Family Carers Ireland.
The Athlone winner, Darin Classsen, filled his trolley with food and treats from the Dublin Road store to enjoy over the Christmas season.
Eimear O’Sullivan, Corporate Affairs Director at Lidl Ireland said: "We are absolutely delighted by the overwhelming generosity of our customers this year.
"The Lidl trolley dash is a much-loved festive tradition, and to see a total of €272,060 raised this year is simply incredible.
"100% of these crucial funds will directly support the vital work of Family Carers Ireland, making a tangible difference to carers and their families right across the country. On behalf of Lidl, I want to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and supported this essential campaign."
Catherine Cox, Head of Communications and Policy at Family Carers Ireland, added: "The support from Lidl customers through the trolley dash has been phenomenal.
"This incredible donation is more than just a number; it will help deliver vital supports and services to family carers across Ireland who give so much in caring for their loved ones.
"These funds will allow us to expand our vital practical and emotional supports, and services, ensuring that the incredible work done by family carers is supported and valued."
