Midlands volunteer rescues injured buzzard following car strike

A buzzard is recovering after being struck by a car on a road in the Midlands earlier this week, thanks to the quick actions of a volunteer.

The bird was found lying stunned in the middle of the road when one of the charity’s volunteers happened to come upon the scene.

Wearing protective gloves, the volunteer carefully rescued the injured buzzard and moved it to safety, preventing further harm.

The bird is now in the volunteer’s care and is being closely monitored. It is hoped the buzzard has suffered only a mild concussion and will be fit to be released back into the wild in the near future.

While the incident highlights the dangers wildlife face on busy roads, Offaly SPCA said the outcome could have been far worse without the timely intervention of someone trained to help.

The organisation plans to provide updates on the bird’s condition as it recovers.
