Volunteers at the St Kieran’s Christmas Dinner.

Local support key to Christmas Dinner at St Kieran’s centre

A group of Athlone volunteers has hosted a hugely successful Christmas dinner at St Kieran’s Community Centre for the fourth consecutive year, ensuring those who may be homeless or experiencing loneliness could enjoy good company and a warm meal on Christmas Day.

The event was made possible through the generosity of local businesses, organisations and volunteers led by Lisa Malone.

Special thanks were extended to the Creggan Court Hotel, which supplied the fabulous dinner for the third year running, and to Magico Bakery for providing treats that were warmly received by guests.

Appreciation was also expressed to everyone who donated or helped in any way.

The staff of St Kieran’s Community Centre were thanked for facilitating use of the premises, while volunteers Michael, John and Tony were acknowledged for their vital role in delivering the dinners, with organisers noting the event would not be possible without their assistance.

Local volunteers were on hand throughout the day to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Particular praise was given to Michelle Mullin, Geraldine Hudson, Anna O’Kane and Emily Clarke for their dedication and hard work, with organisers describing them as “absolutely brilliant”.

Warm wishes were also sent to Deirdre Joyce, who was unable to attend this year, along with Aisling O'Kane, who the volunteers look forward to seeing back in the kitchen next Christmas.

Entertainment on the day was provided by Geraldine Fallon, whose live music proved a highlight for visitors and added to the festive atmosphere. Organisers stressed every contribution, big or small, helped make the annual dinner a welcoming and meaningful occasion.
