Gardai arrest man (20s) in connection with fatal Offaly arson attack

Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with last month's arson attack in Edenderry which resulted in the deaths of four-year-old Tadgh Farrell and his 60-year-old grand aunt Mary Holt.

An extensive Garda investigation based out of Tullamore Garda Station has been underway since the shocking attack occurred on December 6.

In a update which was issued shortly after noon today (Wednesday), Gardai said "a man in his late 20s" was arrested this morning as part of their investigation.

The man "is currently detained on suspicion of murder under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in the Midlands," a spokesperson said.

Gardai added that they were "continuing to investigate all the circumstances" of the fatal house fire which occurred in the Castleview Park estate.

The atrocity caused widespread shock across the country and was condemned by the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice, among others.
