New art exhibition opens at Athlone Civic Centre atrium
A solo exhibition by East Galway-based artist Lidia de Lange is underway in The Atrium Space, Athlone Civic Centre.
'Nothing gold can stay' is open until January 30.
The title of the exhibition, borrowed from a poem by Robert Frost, highlights the truth that everything in nature changes and decays over time.
The knowledge that nothing “gold” can last forever is conveyed by using nature and the Garden of Eden as metaphors for cycles of life and the loss of innocence. Through the work in this exhibition, Lidia de Lange reflects on how the changing rhythms of nature and the brevity of life mirror each other and how transient nature and life itself is.
She uses painting, mixed media and photographs printed on fabric to convey a sensitivity to beauty, stillness and connection.
Her portraits are intimate and dreamlike- becoming quiet reflections on memory and the complexities of human relationships.
Her plant studies reveal a deep love and appreciation of nature.
