Declan Nerney: Will perform at the 2026 Athlone Agri Show in June.

Athlone Agri Show AGM looks ahead to this year's event in June

At the recent AGM of the Athlone Agri Show, held in The Bounty, chairman PJ Glynn welcomed all present and was delighted to see some new faces ready to give a helping hand for the next show which will take place on Sunday, June 14.

The 2025 Agri Show was a tremendous success, and PJ stressed that the show is a community effort, for the community and by the community.

PJ thanked the team leaders and their committees for the tremendous work they carried out last year and it was very gratifying to see so many aspects of the Agri Show programme come to fruition and run so smoothly on the day.

He also thanked the general secretary Oliver Flanagan, and his assistant Melisa Glynn, for their attention to detail, and Michael O’Donohoe for looking after the finances and providing such an excellent showgrounds.

PJ said that without the show's loyal sponsors, it could not be staged, and he wished to thank them most sincerely for their continued support. Appreciation was expressed to the OPW Minister, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, Westmeath County Council, Athlone Moate Municipal District councillors, the Department of Agriculture, Irish Shows Association, local press and radio, HB Safety Services and local Gardai.

Last year was the first year the show had a live Country and Western band on site, which proved to be a major attraction, so much so that Declan Nerney and his band have been booked to perform at the show this June.

PJ has encouraged new members to join the show committee, as, with so many activities planned for the show in 2026, there will be something for everyone to enjoy but the planning of, and support for, these activities is key.

The following officers were elected for the 2026 show season: Chairman: PJ Glynn. Vice Chairman: John Dolan. General Secretary: Oliver Flanagan. Assistant Secretary: Melisa Glynn. PRO: Michael Flanagan.
