Public toilets for Athlone in 2026

Athlone Marina is expected to get new public toilets during the course of this year.

At the latest Athlone Moate Municipal District meeting, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke asked when a design or plan for the facilities would be available.

The council executive replied that a capital fund had been allocated for the project, and the design tendering process was currently underway.

"The anticipated timeframe for design completion will be early in the second quarter of 2026 and construction will take place following a tendering process for the appointment of a contractor," said the council.

Cllr O'Rourke asked if the toilets might be in place before this year’s All Ireland Drama Festival, but was told they would not. "The public toilets will not be in place for the Drama Festival, however it’s intended that they will be in place in 2026," he was informed.
