Athlone Town to kick-off Leinster Senior Cup campaign

Athlone Town step up their pre-season preparations later today (Saturday, January 24) when they contest their opening Leinster Senior Cup Group A match against Dundalk (Athlone Town Stadium, 1pm).
The Town will be hoping to begin the campaign with a positive showing, having endured a very difficult League of Ireland season in 2025. They have been busy adding players to their squad as manager Ian Ryan tries to breath new life into his squad, with former Finn Harps forward Gradi Lomboto signing earlier in the week.
Today's match is the first of three Leinster Senior Cup group matches for Athlone, who are also scheduled to face local outfit St Peter's on Friday, January 30 (Athlone Town Stadium, 7.45pm). Dundalk are currently managed by former Athlone Town women's team boss Ciaran Kilduff and among their ranks is another familiar face, former Town netminder Enda Minogue. In their opening match in Group A, Dundalk were humbled by St Peter's before defeating Shelbourne, 3-1.
