Junior IAMTA Maths competition success for Athlone Community College
Students from Athlone Community College achieved outstanding success at the Junior IAMTA Maths Competition, held in Moate Community School on Thursday, January 22.
Sixteen students represented the school across four teams, as they participated in a challenging and enjoyable afternoon of problem solving alongside students from Moate CS, Marist College, Our Lady’s Bower, and Coláiste Chiaráin.
Athlone Community College’s top-performing team delivered an exceptional performance to claim first place overall, securing the regional title.
Another of the college’s teams also impressed, finishing in a strong fourth place, with all four teams praised for their teamwork, determination and mathematical skill throughout the event.
The competition provided a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate, develop their problem-solving abilities and meet peers from other schools who share an interest in mathematics. Staff at Moate Community School were warmly thanked for hosting a welcoming event.
With their victory, Athlone Community College now progress to the national finals, which takes place on Saturday, April 18, where they will compete against the best-performing schools from across Ireland.
The school also acknowledges the continued work and dedication of the team coaches, Ms. Meehan and Mr. Finneran, who have prepared and supported the students each week since the beginning of the academic year.
Athlone Community College extends its congratulations to all sixteen participating students and looks forward to representing the region on the national stage in April.
