Tubberclair group awarded €6,000 for biodiversity project
Tubberclair Local Action Group has welcomed the awarding of a €6,000 biodiversity grant which will support the development of the area’s first biodiversity plan.
The funding, awarded under the Biodiversity Fund 2025 by Community Foundation Ireland, will allow the group to engage an ecologist to assess and map local habitats and recommend actions to enhance biodiversity across the area.
The aim is to create a Community Biodiversity Action Plan for Tubberclair, uniting locals and partners to restore habitats, enhance green spaces, and support wellbeing while advancing Ireland’s biodiversity and climate goals.
To date, Tubberclair has not had a formal biodiversity plan in place. This project will seek to establish a strong evidence-based foundation to guide environmental actions and strengthen applications for funding.
It builds on the Tubberclair Development Plan, launched last year which identified environmental protection and enhancement as key priorities for residents.
A spokesperson for Tubberclair Local Action Group said: "This funding is a very welcome step forward for Tubberclair.
"It allows us to take a more structured and informed approach to protecting our local habitats and natural heritage, while working closely with the community to shape a shared vision for biodiversity in the area."
