TUS Midlands secure Freshers football championship crown
TUS Midlands made history last night (Thursday) when winning the Electric Ireland Division 1 Freshers Football Championship for the first time.
A six-point win over DCU Dóchas Éireann (1-16 to 1-10) saw the Athlone-based third level college claim a merited victory on a night when persistent rainfall was a dominant feature in the game.
Despite the elements, TUS Midlands exerted their dominance on proceedings with notable displays from Tubberclair club players Taylor Slevin and Paul Keegan, while Moate All Whites footballer Cian Whitney also contributed to the team's historic success.
Slevin, in particular, impacted the game from his customary wing back position and made a notable contribution to his team's victory when pointing a placed ball from distance at a crucial stage.

The team is managed by former Rosemount and Westmeath senior football goalkeeper Eoin Carberry and coached by Castledaly GAA pair, Lorcan Dolan and Conor Foley. Maryland clubman Kevin Dolan is a selector with the team.
