More medal success for Athlone Boat Club member

Athlone Boat Club member Paul Gallen continued his remarkable 2026 rowing form when he performed with distinction at the virtual World Indoor Rowing Championships.

Competing in the Masters category, Paul claimed medal honours in three competitions, winning gold in the one-minute event and silver medals at the both 1,000m and 5,000m distances.

Paul completed a distance of 338 metres to claim the honours in the one-minute competition, posting times of 3.24.40 and 18.54.20 in the 1,000m and 5,000m events respectively.

His form at the virtual World Indoor Rowing Championships builds on his impressive 2026 form. Since January 1, Paul has broken one world record and five Irish rowing records while competing in masters' events.

Paying tribute to his achievements, Athlone Boat Club said Paul was "a truly remarkable rower, athlete, and an exceptional member of our great club," adding: "We couldn’t be prouder of everything he has achieved".
