Roadstone acquires Kildea Concrete
Local firm Kildea Concrete has been purchased by Roadstone.
In a statement, Roadstone, a fully-owned subsidiary of CRH, said it had reached an agreement to acquire S. Kildea & Sons Ltd, which trades as Kildea Concrete – a leading producer of ready-mix concrete, precast and concrete blocks in Athlone, Co. Roscommon.
The company said the addition of Kildea Concrete further strengthened its ability to provide customers with the essential materials to support the delivery of critical infrastructure across the Midlands.
Kildea Concrete was established in the early 1990s by the late Sonnie Kildea and his sons John and Larry and started producing ready-mix concrete for the Midlands and East Connaught region.
Sonnie retired in 2008 having worked in the concrete industry since the mid-1960s, and Larry assumed the role of managing director of the business.
Since then, Kildea Concrete expanded into concrete block manufacturing and produces a range of precast products, specialised concretes and Alfarock retaining and landscaping wall solutions. The precast and Alfarock retaining and landscaping walls are supplied to the UK and Ireland markets.
Under Roadstone’s ownership the business will continue to operate under its own name and branding serving customers in the Midlands and East Connaught region.
It's understood there are currently approximately 30 employees.
Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, Larry Kildea said: “We are immensely proud of the progress Kildea Concrete has made since its establishment by my father in the early 1990s.
The sale to CRH/Roadstone marks an exciting new chapter for the company, and on behalf of John and myself, we wish the team every success as they continue to deliver the quality, high standards and service that customers have come to expect.”
