Athlone senior footballer raises significant funds for charity

Athlone senior footballer Noel Mulligan has presented a fundraising cheque for €20,770 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland.

The Tubberclare NS teacher presented the proceeds of his fundraising initiative to the charity which provides accommodation and a supportive environment for families whose children are seriously ill and are hospitalised or undergoing medical treatment at Children’s Health Ireland, Crumlin.

Noel and his wife Bianca stayed in Ronald McDonald House for 19 days in early 2025 while their baby boy Noah underwent surgery.

To thank the charity for its support when the family's need was greatest, Noel participated in the 4x4x48 hour David Goggins challenge in October, running four miles, every four hours for 48 hours.

Noel had set an initial fundraising target of €2,000 but that figure mushroomed into the final cheque total which he presented at Ronald McDonald House in Crumlin this week.

In a social media post, Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland said they were 'blown away' by the funds raised.

"Wow, wow, wow! Noel, we are blown away. Thank you for turning your experience into something so powerful for other families".
