Three local designs reach Junk Kouture final
By Rebekah O'Reilly
Local talents shone once again at Junk Kouture 2026, as three local designs progressed to the Dublin City Finals.
The regional finals of Junk Kouture took place in The Helix from March 9 to March 11, and saw a total of 40 designs from across the island of Ireland selected to progress to the final in May.
Each spectacular live regional event showcased finalist students from across the country as they unveiled their ingenious, eco-friendly couture creations in a high-energy, visually stunning runway experience. All the amazing designs were made from recycled and repurposed materials.
Athlone Community College design 'Reef-lection' by students Ciara Connachton, Aoife Holohan and Ziva David has made waves at the competition, securing it's place at the final.
Meanwhile, Moate Community College enjoyed a dual success with designs 'Eyeconic' by Jenna O’Meara, Niamh Noore, and Doireann Keena, and 'Brewing Memories' by Millie O’Donovan both progressing in the competition.
'Eyeconic' was created from medical waste tubes, wool, and feathers, is a true celebration of creativity, innovation, and sustainability. Doireann confidently modelled their stunning creation. 'Brewing Memories" was crafted from used tea bags and beautifully modelled by Millie herself, for an imaginative and sustainable design truly stands out.
The three designs will now compete at the Dublin City Final in May, for their chance to reach the Junk Kouture World Finals.
