Plenty to celebrate at Athlone AC awards night

Athlone Athletics Club marked a memorable evening of celebration as members, families and friends gathered for the club’s annual awards night at The Bounty last Saturday week, February 28.

The annual event reflected on a year of dedication, achievement and community spirit for all club members. From impressive performances in races in a wide variety of places to invaluable volunteer contributions behind the scenes, the awards reflected the strength and unity that define Athlone AC.

Among those honoured on the night were John Shortall, Sheila Beirne, Marie Hanley, Shannon Sumner, Melanie Moran, Pauric Whelehan and James Carr, each recognised for their outstanding commitment and achievements over the past year.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the overall ‘Club Person of the Year’ award to Charlie Lawn, whose contribution, dedication and support for the club were warmly acknowledged and richly deserved.

A heartfelt word of thanks was extended to club chairperson Martina Connell and the entire club committee for their outstanding organisation of the evening. The success of the event was a testament to the dedication of those who work tirelessly to support the club.

Sincere appreciation was also expressed to coaches Gary Flannery and Mick Macken, who delivered engaging presentations during the evening. Their words reflected not only the progress and achievements of the athletes, but also the spirit of teamwork and perseverance that underpins the club’s continued success.

The Bounty proved to be an excellent venue for the occasion. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, with the venue’s staff praised for their professionalism and attentiveness throughout the night. Entertainment on the night was provided by Aidan Higgins, who kept the energy high as DJ. The interactive rock n’ roll bingo had the room buzzing with excitement, laughter and plenty of dancing.
