Surfacing works ongoing at Carrickobrien Road in Athlone

Surfacing works are taking place on the Carrickobrien Road from today (Wednesday) until Friday, March 20.

A temporary diversion is in place while the works remain ongoing with residents in the area being directed to use the Clonbonny exit at Michael Moore Car Sales to gain access to Athlone and all onward journeys.

Crrickobrien resident Tom Cleary said the works involve the "raising of the road on a short stretch beyond Aldi" with residents and local businesses reciving notice well in advance of the temporary diversion being implemented.

A contractor for the Municipal District Athlone-Moate (Westmeath County Council) is carrying out the surfacing works with the local authority "regretting any convenience caused" to residents and local businesses during this time.
