Rising Padraig Pearses forward Eoin Colleran.

South Roscommon talent makes the Sigerson Cup Team of the Year

Talented Padraig Pearses star Eoin Colleran has been named as part of the 2026 Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Football Team of the Year.

Colleran helped University of Galway reach the semi-finals of this year's competition before losing out to UCC by three points. Colleran scored 1-2 in that defeat and was also prominent among the scorers when his team beat UCD at the quarter-final stage.

With this being the first year that the Sigerson Cup was played under the new rules, this year’s competition culminated with University of Limerick (UL) securing their first-ever Sigerson Cup title by defeating Munster rivals UCC by three points. This final marked the Sigerson Cup's return to Croke Park for the first time in over 40 years. And UL are further awarded for their prowess with seven players selected for the Team of the Year. Colleran's college team-mate Canice Mulligan (Sligo) is also part of the selection.

The players selected in the Rising Star Team of the Year will receive a bespoke award crafted from the same renewable Beechwood material that was used in the Player of the Match awards. The Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup Player of the Year will also be announced at an awards ceremony on Monday, March 30.
