Gardai investigating St Patrick's Day assault on three men in Athlone

Gardai are investigating a reported assault on three men in their 20s in Athlone during the early hours of Tuesday morning, March 17.

The incident happened on Sean Costello Street, in the centre of the town, at approximately 2.45am.

It's believed that a vehicle in the area pulled up and that an occupant or occupants got out and set upon the three men, who were on foot and who each received blows to the face, before the car then sped away.

It's understood that the three men were subsequently brought to hospital for x-rays and other facial injury checks.

A local Garda spokesperson said CCTV footage in the area was being sought, and that anyone who was in Sean Costello Street between 2am and 3am on March 17, and witnessed anything suspicious, is being asked to get in contact.
