Westmeath flag to fly at Civic Centre ahead of Leinster football final
By Rebekah O'Reilly
The Westmeath flag is set to fly outside of Athlone Civic Centre ahead of the Leinster GAA senior football final this weekend.
The item was brought forward at the latest meeting of Athlone Moate Municipal District, where councillors also asked that the recently named Mary O'Rourke bridge be lit up in the Westmeath colours.
Westmeath will compete in their sixth ever Leinster final against Dublin on Sunday, May 17, in Croke Park (2pm).
The Lake County’s indefatigable spirit shone through against Kildare when they secured a four-point victory after extra-time to set up a Leinster final clash.
Westmeath’s reward is twofold, as they have also secured their place in the All-Ireland championship for the summer.
