Athlone gaelscoil pupils given talk on bicycle safety

Pupils from the Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí gaelscoil in Athlone received a talk about cycling etiquette and bicycle maintenance from members of An Garda Síochána and Buckley's Cycles on Friday last.

A mechanic from Buckley's Cycles met with the local pupils to teach them a little about maintaining their bikes, while Garda members were on hand to provide demonstrations and talks about signalling and safe cycling.

The event was organised by Cllr Frankie Keena and Sergeant Damien Connaughton as part of the second annual Athlone Bike Fest, and it took place during National Bike Week (May 9-17).

Other Bike Fest events planned for Saturday were unfortunately postponed due to the weather and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Athlone Bike Fest is encouraging everyone in Athlone to get their bikes serviced and ready for summer and to consider enjoying some of the cycling tracks available in and around the town.
