All eyes on Roscommon senior football semi-finals
Shannonside FM Roscommon SFC Semi-Finals ST BRIGID'S face familiar opposition as they continue their bid for a hat-trick of Roscommon SFC titles this weekend. It's semi-finals weekend, and the Kevin McStay-managed Kiltoom/Cam side face Elphin at Dr Hyde Park on Saturday (5.30pm). Both teams are well-known to each other, having met in the last two Fahy Cup deciders - with St Brigid's coming out on-top on both occasions. St Brigid's selector Benny O'Brien said Elphin will be "highly motivated" for another crack at the Athlone outfit, and highlighted how Elpin have scored "in excess of 17 points" in their last three outings, which included a comfortable quarter-final victory over Clann na nGael. "It's all to play for," said Benny. "We're maybe not as fresh as we'd like to be, or have been before, so it's going to be a very tough test," he added. St Brigid's will be without experienced sharp-shooter Frankie Dolan, who serves a suspension following his quarter-final sending-off. Robbie Kelly, a mainstay of the Brigid's defence in recent years, is also ruled out injured for the remainder of the year. However, Brigid's hope to have Peter Domican back after injury. In the other semi-final, Padraig Pearses meet Roscommon Gaels at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday (5.30pm). See back page of this week's Westmeath Independent for full preview.
