Sign mapping Mount Temple and its history is unveiled

A comprehensive history and map of the local hinterland of Mount Temple and surrounding areas was unveiled recently in Mount Temple village. The colourful map was illustrated by local artist, Rosaleen Heavin. It depicts all the townlands in the ancient kingdom of the Gaelic chieftains, the Magawleys (or McAuleys) as well as identifying all local tourist amenities and places of interest. The visitor sign presents a listing of all of the townland names and explanation of their origins. A detailed narrative charts the local history from pre-christian times up to modern events in the locality. The sign provide a wealth of information to visitors and local alike. The project to research the visitor sign was undertaken by the local Tidy Towns group to promote their village. They have completed numerous projects in the village over recent years and this is their latest of a number of initatives. The project was kindly sponsored by Jay and Bernie Egan of Egan's of Mount Temple and by Michelle Francis and Shane Guinan of local restaurant The Motte & Bailey.
