Shannonbridge man killed in horror Meath smash

A 37-year-old man was killed instantly in a horrific road traffic accident in county Meath. Cathal O"Leary, originally from Clonascra, in Offaly died when a Bus Eireann coach became airborne after hitting a roundabout, and crashing into his jeep. The accident happened on the Kilcock side of the old N4 road just after 6.40am on Monday. Mr O"Leary, who was driving a Toyota Landcruiser, is believed to have left his Enfield home in Glen Abhainn Park just minutes earlier with his partner. Miraculously, she escaped with minor injuries but was left severely traumatised and shocked in the aftermath of the horror crash. The driver of the bus was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, with minor injuries. Gardai and Bus Eireann have now launched separate investigations into the causes of the fatal collision. It"s understood the out-of-service bus was travelling from Dublin to Enfield to begin the 6.50am service in the Meath town when the bus crashed at a roundabout on the old N4, before becoming airborne and colliding with the driver side of the jeep before going through a fence and to a stop in a nearby field. Mr O"Leary, who had been living in Enfield for some time but originally came from Clonascra, Shannonbridge, close to Clonmacnois was pronounced dead at the scene. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
